The Best Name

The first thing struck Mr. & Mrs. YL's mind was “Name” after they had beautifully welcomed Little She.
Of course, they would like to choose the best name for their daughter. The best name that they could ever name of.
Again, overwhelming ideas and suggestions were received.

Saudi friend asked Mr. YL to give Arabic name, the name of their prophet’s daughter. Very impressive and gratified idea but the problem was Mr. YL and Mrs. YL could not pronounce the name correctly. How sad!

All from HR department agreed on one name, Zahra. Ok. Not bad, sound’s like Zara and close to Mr. YL’s name. Since there is already a brand name “Zara”, Mr. YL was thinking of swaying it to “Zora”.

At the same time, Korean friends were suggesting them to give names sound like “kin yin gyim suin saur …..”. Thanks to them but very tongue twisting for Burmese.
Well, that’s enough for them to get confused. The more they think of a better name, the more they are puzzled.
So they decided to take more time to think of the best name……

At Raffles Hospital office
Mr. YL: “Mingalabar” (of course he did not say this to Malay Singaporean office staff. He greeted in Universal Language, English) (By the way, is English still Universal Language? I reckon it’s changed to Chinese). “I am here to register my daughter’s birth certificate.”

Staff: “Mingalabar” (again, she did not say this but said Hello). “Sure, please take a seat and I will attend to you shortly” (sounds like a stewardess).

Mr. YL: “Okayyyy”

(30 seconds later)
Staff: “Yes, sir, may I help you?”

Mr. YL: “annn?!? (Thought I said I am here to make birth certificate!?) “Oh, uh.. I want to make a birth registration.”

Staff: “Certainly sir. Please complete this form. And what is her name?”

Mr. YL: “Name? Oh, ummm, actually, we have not decided yet. Do I need to provide a name now?”

Staff: “Yes! Sir! Without a name, how can we make her birth registration?”

Mr. YL: “Can I give a tentative name? Nick name or something to make it done first?”

Staff: (looking at Mr. YL with “are you nuts” look on her face but answered politely) “Not possible sir! The name that you give me now will appear permanently in her future record.”

Mr. YL: (All bells ring) “In that case, hehe, can I ask my wife and come back later? How many days do we have?”

Staff: “No problem, sir. You may do it within a month. Just fill up the form and (raise tone) give us the name!”

Mr. & Mrs. YL sent ‘SOS’ to their family members. Then they have another problem.
More names received from their family members. They rejected one by one, giving different reasons to each and every name.
But Mrs. YL’s dad gave them one name, KZ YL. He said, that was the name popped out on his mind when he thought of the name for Little She. It's a kind of ‘mix and blend’ (like my 77 born friend said, ‘yaw tama mhway’) of Mr. & Mrs YL’s given names.

Not very content Mr. YL’s mom (Because Mr. & Mrs. YL rejected all her names given in the morning phone conversation) called Mr. YL again in the afternoon. This time her sound was pretty stiff and had you-cannot-say-no tone.

“Son, listen. I have thought of the best name. I too checked with fortune teller and astrologists. It is the best name. It has my daughter-in-law’s name, my daughter’s name and your name. So it is the best name. (That was the third time she used “best”). The name is KZ YL.”

“What?!!”, Mr. YL shouted.

Mdm OM L shouted back, “What what!? That’s the best name (she said ‘best’ again). You see, she has your entire name! Why can’t you content with this best name? (ok, I lost count on how many times she used ‘best’). Alright alright. Say no more. This must be her name! Bye. Oh, I love you. Take good care of your wife.”

Mr. YL could not believe his ears and wondered how on earth these two people (Mrs. YL’s dad and his mom) thought of the same name? And after he and his wife murmured the name again and again, and yes, they both liked it. What a perfect name indeed! The name starts with Mrs. YL’s given name and has entire name of Mr. YL.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Little She’s name is
“KZ YL”.
